Embodied mathematics and Graphs & Gestures

Here are slides from my research group and our work on embodied mathematics. We will also look at some video clips from the Graphs & Gestures project (which cannot be uploaded here).

Qs: How could we make secondary school (and post-secondary, and elementary school) mathematics a more embodied experience?

Why might we want to do so?

How can physical, multi sensory experiences interweave with theoretical, abstract or generalized ways of learning so that the senses contribute to the mathematics learning, rather than remaining disconnected?

Who would benefit from multi sensory ways of teaching and learning mathematics?

We will try out some of the activities from the Graphs & Gestures project as we work on making sense of aspects of the graphs of mathematical functions -- with more senses than just vision!
